  3. PROUNLOK is a ONE-TIME process to remove Prolok from your program.
  4. It is an improvement over and replaces PROKEY.COM (a resident program).
  5. Using DBASE as an example:
  6.  
  7. 1.  Isolate PROUNLOK.COM and DBASE.EXE onto a separate subdirectory
  8.     or floppy.  You don't need the original floppy to run this.
  9.  
  10. 2.  Type PROUNLOK DBASE
  11.  
  12. If everything works ok you will wind up with a DBASE.EXE that's
  13. about 6K smaller and minus the Vault (Prolok) code.  It's the .EXE
  14. the publisher started with.  You can copy and run it as you like.

  16. Has been tested with dBase III, Framework and Realia COBOL.
  17. If it doesn't work on your program, there are two possibilities:
  18.   1.  Your program isn't protected by Prolok.  Do a TYPE on the
  19.       .EXE file.  Vault always puts their copyright notice in the
  20.       first 200-300 bytes in plaintext (unencrypted).  Note that
  21.       Ashton-Tate is no longer using Prolok.
  22.   2.  Vault has changed their code again.  Continue looking for an
  23.       unprotect that works.

  25. Kudos to the Lone Victor (PROLOK.UNP) for finding the right intercept
  26. point.  I automated the process.
